“A Girl Like You”

"A Girl Like You" in Valentine #19 (August 1961, 5d) follows Mac and Gina’s fragile romance as Mac is called home to Montreal after his grandmother falls ill—she who raised him after his parents passed. While Mac is away, Gina throws herself into her new job with a dress designer, only to find Ken, a colleague from Mac’s firm, growing close to her. When Ken confesses his feelings and believes Gina returns them, the story takes a quiet, emotional turn as Gina makes a sudden decision that changes everything. Mac and Gina had fallen in love, but Mac receives news from Montreal that his grandma is sick and not going to recover. Mac's grandmother had brought him up until he came to work in his uncle's firm in England. Gina had just landed a job with a dress designer and flung herself into her work while Mac was away. Ken, who had worked with Mac, began to see Gina often. Initially they were just friends, but eventually Ken declares his love for her and claims she loves him. He plans to write to Mac to tell him about it, but Gina threw up her career to buy a boat ticket to Canada to be with Mac.
