Velvet Rope #1
"Prologue" in Velvet Rope #1 (2008) sets a quietly unnerving tone as a man, drawn inexplicably to a theater he’s never seen before, finds himself alone on Halloween night. The moment he realizes something’s wrong—when the girl from the box office appears at the concession stand and the usher is the same one he just met—the air shifts, and the real horror begins. Written by Mark Poulton and illustrated by Stephen Sistilli, whose distinct art and inks shape every unsettling detail, this first issue establishes a chilling atmosphere with a single, unforgettable image: a seat that reaches out. The cover by Stephen Sistilli captures the eerie stillness of that moment perfectly.

Despite never noticing the theater before, a man can't resist a horror marathon on Halloween night. It seems strange to him when the girl from the box office appears to be at the concession stand and is also an usher. He also notices he is alone in the theater and he yells for help when arms from his seat reach out to grab him. The same girl appears, admonishing him to be quiet since the feature presentation is about to begin.
