Vengeance of the Moon Knight #2 is the second chapter of Jed MacKay's bold pivot following Marc Spector's death at the close of his celebrated 30-issue run: rather than simply resurrect the title character, the series centers the Midnight Mission's surviving cast and explores what the Moon Knight mantle means when severed from its originator. This issue escalates the central conflict by having Maximillian Coleridge — the Shroud, a decades-old Marvel street-level character — violently assault the Midnight Mission itself as the ersatz Moon Knight, making the community Marc built the direct target and raising pointed questions about legacy, identity, and who gets to wear a god's symbol. Vengeance of the Moon Knight (vol. 2) launched in January 2024 as the direct continuation of MacKay and Cappuccio's Moon Knight (2021) series, which ended after 30 issues with the death of Marc Spector. MacKay and Cappuccio — the same core creative team from the preceding run — were retained for the relaunch, with Rachelle Rosenberg continuing on colors and Tom Brevoort editing, preserving remarkable continuity of voice across the title change. The series was announced in September 2023 and structured as a 9-issue mystery arc built around an impostor Moon Knight, before being relaunched again as Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu in late 2024 once Marc Spector was restored.
