Vermillion #11

Part three of "Lord Iron and Lady Manganese" arrives in this 1997 Helix/DC entry in the Vermillion series, with a cover by John Totleben that immediately commands attention. A dark-haired woman in an off-the-shoulder blue dress dominates the foreground, her gaze cool and guarded, while behind her a solitary man sits at a candlelit table — and looming over the entire scene are two ominous shadow-creatures with branch-like limbs stretching across a murky green background. Lucius Shepard and Gary Erskine continue their collaboration on the interior, making this a compelling chapter in one of the more atmospheric science-fantasy series of its era.
