About this Collection

This volume collects the first story arc of Marv Wolfman's 1980s Vigilante series, following Adrian Chase as a former district attorney turned brutal vigilante after his family's murder. It includes Vigilante #1-13, showcasing Chase's violent crusade against crime in New York City, with art by Keith Pollard and others.

In "The Murder Machine," Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard deliver a tense, character-driven thriller as Vigilante tracks down a man whose past brutality shattered the life of his friend J.J. and left his fiancée broken. When Cyborg of the Teen Titans intervenes, the confrontation escalates into a brutal chase that ends with Vigilante facing his own moral limits—shooting Cyborg, then hesitating at the moment of execution. The issue’s raw emotional core and stark moral question are rendered with intensity by Pollard’s dynamic art and Tollin’s sharp coloring, all anchored by Wolfman’s signature storytelling.

Vigilante hunts down a man who once beat up J.J. and brutalized his fiance, causing her to lose her mind. Cyborg of the Teen Titans gets involved when the authorities learn that Stryker is the Vigilante's intended target. After a lengthy running battle, Vigilante gets the drop on Cyborg and shoots him through the shoulder. As he prepares to kill Stryker, however, he finds that he is unable to pull the trigger and instead coerces a lengthy confession out of the criminal. Returning to base, Adrian and J.J. talk about the situation and both agree that murder is not justice.
