Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #5 (245)
In "Sitting High," Mickey Mouse takes on Pete in a high-stakes showdown at a gold mine, where the villain’s fate hinges on a year of good behavior to claim his inheritance. Written by Carl Fallberg and brought to life with energetic art by Paul Murry—pencils, inks, and lettering all by Murry, with colors by the Western Publishing Production Shop—this 1961 tale mixes humor and moral stakes as Pete faces his first real test of reform. The cover, by Tony Strobl, captures the moment with classic Disney flair.

Mickey finally catches up with Pete and prevents him from holding up the miner for his gold, thus preserving Pete's inheritance which would be forfeit unless he reforms for at least a year - and stays reformed to continue getting the money in yearly installments. Once the situation is explained to him, Pete kinda-sorta tries his hand at honest work, but can he walk the straight-and-narrow for the next 366 days? (1960 was a leap year!)
