“Shiver Valley”

In "Shiver Valley," Homer's navigation goes haywire when a cold clouds his homing instincts—so Red Cardinal equips him with a radio-linked pilot's helmet to stay on course. But when a gang of desperadoes floods the airwaves with their own transmissions, Homer veers off track, gets caught in a storm, and unintentionally guides the police right to the outlaws' hideout. The story unfolds with clever twists and classic charm, all drawn with precision by Veve Risto, whose work defines the issue's distinctive look. The cover, by Bill Weaver, captures the tension and adventure of the tale.

Homer's homing instinct is affected by a cold. Red Cardinal gives him a radio-equipped pilot's helmet to let him follow the radio signal. Meanwhile the police are hunting a gang of desperadoes and their radio messages are flooding the airwaves, causing Homer to miss the homing beam. He gets caught in a storm and accidentally leads the police to the gang's hideout.
