War at Sea #35

This issue contains two war stories. "The Hard Hat Navy" follows Casey Quinn, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy for shipboard duty but instead finds himself a member of a combat unit proceeding west in the Mediterranean to engage an unobserved ship. The cruiser encounters a Nazi vessel at sea, mistakenly identifies it as one of theirs in the confusion, and rushes into battle; the American cruiser is sunk, with eight days later the ship sailing into New York and reporting the loss. A second story depicts a German dive-bomber attack on a cruiser, with a cleek watching it approach and a gunner being killed in action, after which Blacky Cleek assumes the gunner's post to operate the 20-millimeter turret in defense against the enemy.
