“Chapter 1 - The Disaffected Menace”
About this Collection

This 2009 collection from Slave Labor gathers the complete run of the quirky, offbeat series Warlord of Io, originally published in the early 1990s. It also includes a selection of related short stories and backup features, offering a comprehensive look at this cult-favorite title known for its blend of science fiction and humor. The volume is a must-have for fans of indie comics from that era, preserving the work of its creators in a single edition.

In "Chapter 1 - The Disaffected Menace," Hell’s most reluctant detective, Mumpy Mushmuck, finds himself in a bitter rivalry with the impressively busy Grueltongue, who claims to have secured tickets to the upcoming Hitler-Stalin wrestling match. When Pukdrool reveals that the month’s top detective will win free tickets, Mumpy brags he’s already rigged the judges’ vote—only to face quiet skepticism from Pukdrool, who questions the ethics of such a win. Written and illustrated by James Turner, this darkly comedic tale unfolds in a uniquely twisted underworld, with the cover by James Turner capturing its satirical edge.
