“Out of the Black Night”

In "Out of the Black Night," brilliant scientist Latham builds a thought machine that inadvertently summons an alien intelligence, setting off a chilling chain of events when the entity takes over the body of his late wife, Flora. As the alien Flora manipulates Latham into amplifying the machine’s beam to invite a wave of invaders, he must make a desperate choice to stop the invasion. Penciled and inked by Jim McLaughlin, this 1953 tale blends psychological tension with early sci-fi dread, all contained in a 10-cent comic from Ace Magazines.

Brilliant scientist Latham constructs a telescope-like thought machine which pulls alien intelligence down to earth. Having just killed his wife in a domestic quarrel, the alien intruder takes over Flora's body. Alien Flora urges Latham to adjust the machine's beam so that millions of invaders can come down to earth. In a last effort, the scientist blows up his laboratory, thus saving the day.
