Weird Wonder Tales #3
In "The Thing in the Mud!", a time machine inventor's friends try to prank him into abandoning his experiments—only to accidentally unleash something from the future. When one of them peers through the door into a world of advancing robot slavers, the inventor dismisses it as another joke, destroying the machine's controls. But the moment he does, a mechanical hand smashes through the door. Written by Paul S. Newman and illustrated by Bill Benulis with inks by Jack Abel, this 1974 Marvel tale blends sci-fi suspense and early humor with a chilling twist. The cover, a collaborative effort by Harry Anderson, John Romita, and Marie Severin, captures the moment of dread with sharp, dynamic lines.
