The Red Band series launched in August 2024 as a direct outgrowth of Marvel's Blood Hunt event, which gave Jack Russell a new, more volatile lycanthropic transformation that writer Jason Loo and Marvel's editorial team decided was too graphic for a standard-rated book. The resulting Red Band label — polybagged with a Parental Advisory rating — was Marvel's way of giving the horror corner of its universe room to operate without the content constraints of its main line. Loo, who had already written the Werewolf by Night: Blood Hunt one-shot, brought aboard artist Sergio Dávila (a veteran of Venom and Thor) to build the ongoing, with E.M. Gist providing covers throughout and editor Edward Devin Lewis shepherding the series issue to issue.
