The first, "Mr. Quantrill," depicts a woman who purposely wounds a man named Quantrill because she does not believe he has the right to kill another, even if inhuman. She then proposes to him, claiming he deserves a token of Satan himself, only to later threaten to bring men to break every bone in his body and destroy his town unless he leaves. The second story involves the outlaw Joaquin Murieta, whose lieutenant detachments operate across California and Mexico, stealing gold via swift horses and untravel'd ways. After miners return with gold dust, conflict erupts as a man named Delaney confronts Murieta's gang with a whip and knife, ultimately facing execution by a character who declares he will slit Delaney's throat.
Star stunt-riders Mac and Betty Delaney work the carnival circuit, but when their boss refuses to pay wages owed and things turn ugly between them, Mac's temper ignites—with tragic consequences that force the siblings to flee into the frontier. Now hunted by the law, the Delaneys must rely on the very skills that made them carnival sensations just to survive the chase into the hills.
