What If? #25
In this pivotal *What If?* tale from 1981, the Watcher presents a startling alternate history where Thor’s fury ignites a clash not with a monster or a god, but with his own father, Odin—over the fate of Jane Foster. Written by Mark Gruenwald and illustrated by Ron Wilson with inks by Alan Kupperberg, the story explores the thunder god’s inner turmoil and the consequences of divine pride, all rendered with the emotional weight and dramatic flair that defined Marvel’s early 1980s. The cover by Dave Simons and Joe Rubinstein captures the storm of that fateful confrontation.

Sometimes, the Watcher tells stories from Earth's past, and not only imaginary stories. This time, he tells the story of the Eternals, a race of humans that were genetically modified by aliens to become almost godlike. When their city Titanos is destroyed, brothers Zuras and Alars learn that their father Chronos' experiments have made all Eternals immortal. The experiment has also granted the Eternals the ability to form a single collective mind, the Uni-Brain. Joined together, the Eternals decide that Zuras should be their new ruler, and Alars departs to seek his own destiny.
