Where Monsters Dwell #21
In "Fin Fang Foom!", a young Taiwanese historian defies his father’s wishes and the looming threat of invasion by summoning the ancient dragon Fin Fang Foom, using his knowledge of forgotten lore to awaken the beast from its slumber. Written by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, with dynamic artwork by Jack Kirby and inks by Dick Ayers, this 1973 Marvel classic blends myth and wartime tension in a story where courage takes the form of wisdom, not war. The cover, penciled by Kirby and inked by Ayers, captures the dragon’s arrival in dramatic fashion.

A young historian from Taiwan is scorned by his father for his refusal to join the army, even in the face of an imminent communist invasion. Instead of fighting directly, he crosses to the mainland to awake the dragon Fin Fang Foom. He lures the dragon to the coast to wreck the invasion fleet, and then lures it back to its lair before restoring its mystical slumber.
