“The Vengeful Four”

In "The Vengeful Four," three young men named Billy Batson—Tall Billy from Texas, Hill Billy from the Ozarks, and Fat Billy from Brooklyn—each inspired by Captain Marvel’s adventures, test the legendary word "Shazam" with unexpected results. When they’re captured by Sivana and his gang, their simultaneous cry of the magic word triggers a surprising transformation, each becoming one of the Lieutenant Marvels, gaining powers similar to the Marvel. C. C. Beck’s dynamic art brings the moment to life in both story and cover, capturing the chaotic energy of a moment that redefines what it means to be a hero.

Three young men from different areas of the country (Texas, the Ozarks, and Brooklyn), all named Billy Batson, were reading Captain Marvel’s comic book adventures and happened to wonder if saying “Shazam” would work for them as well. As it happened, Tall Billy, Hill Billy, and Fat Billy were captured, along with the real Billy, by Sivana and his gang. When they all said the magic word at the same time, each was transformed into one of the Lieutenant Marvels, having powers akin to Captain Marvel.
