“The Rudiments of Wisdom Part Two: The Village That Walked Like a Woman”

In "The Rudiments of Wisdom Part Two: The Village That Walked Like a Woman," Paul Cornell and Trevor Hairsine deliver a surreal, dream-drenched chapter where Pantegruel Village descends into waking chaos as its inhabitants can't distinguish illusion from reality. With Maureen’s telepathic reach, Pete and his team try to calm the sleeping giant beneath the town—only for John’s conflicting command to trigger a far more dangerous awakening. The cover by Trevor Hairsine and Paul Neary captures the surreal tension perfectly.

Everyone in Pantegruel Village is having intense waking dreams, unable to tell illusion from reality, with disastrous results. Pete and his team use the telepathic powers of Maureen to contact the sleeping giant buried underneath the city to tell it to dial back on the powerful dreaming. Things get hairy when John also tells the giant to wake up, which she does, with the whole town sitting on top of her head. Problems develop even further when giants underneath neighboring towns also awaken and begin to battle Pantegruel.
