“The Four Sisters Part Six”
About this Issue

As part of Panini UK's Volume 4 run, this issue brought Tom Taylor and David López's landmark All-New Wolverine series — specifically the 'Four Sisters' arc — to British newsstand readers for the first time, meaning UK audiences encountered the debut of Gabby Kinney and Bellona (both first appearing in All-New Wolverine #2) through this Collectors' Edition reprint format. The shift to leading with Laura Kinney as Wolverine, rather than Logan, made this volume of the Panini title a quiet turning point: for a UK comic that had headlined Logan since its Wolverine Unleashed days in the 1990s, placing his clone-daughter in the starring role reflected a generational change in the character's identity. The inclusion of Deadpool material alongside it captured the character at peak cultural visibility following the 2016 film, giving UK readers an unusually well-matched double-header of Marvel's two most regeneration-proof mutants.

History

Panini UK's Wolverine and Deadpool series has operated as a Collectors' Edition reprint title since it took its current name with issue 104 in 2004, evolved from the earlier Wolverine Unleashed and Wolverine and Gambit incarnations. Volume 4 launched in August 2016, retooling the format to reprint All-New Wolverine alongside Deadpool's contemporaneous ongoing — a direct editorial response to both the All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch and Deadpool's surging post-film popularity that also prompted a cover-price adjustment. Issue 6 of that volume falls within the early phase of the UK serialisation of Taylor's 'Four Sisters' storyline, which introduced Gabby and Bellona as clones of Laura herself.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published by Panini UK as part of the Marvel Collectors' Edition line, a longstanding series of UK newsstand reprint comics running approximately 72–76 pages per issue.
  • Falls within Volume 4 of the Wolverine and Deadpool title, which launched in August 2016 and was the first volume to reprint the All-New Wolverine series.
  • Reprints material from Tom Taylor (writer) and David López (artist)'s All-New Wolverine, specifically from the opening 'Four Sisters' arc (All-New Wolverine #1–6, 2015–2016).
  • Gabby Kinney (later known as Honey Badger/Scout) and Bellona both make their first appearances in All-New Wolverine #2 — material whose UK debut is carried by this volume's early issues.
  • Laura Kinney (X-23) stars as Wolverine throughout the reprinted material, succeeding Logan after his death — the first time the Panini Wolverine title had serialised a female lead in the Wolverine role.
  • The Sisters (Gabby, Zelda, Bellona) are introduced in the source material as Alchemax-produced clones of Laura; writer Tom Taylor confirmed their names — Gabrielle, Zelda, and Bellona — all carry meanings related to death, a deliberate choice reflecting their dehumanising origins.
  • Volume 4's format inverted the historic Wolverine-heavy ratio of earlier volumes, shifting to one Wolverine story and two Deadpool stories per issue, driven by Deadpool's rising popularity following the 2016 Ryan Reynolds film.
  • The All-New Wolverine series being reprinted here ran from 2015 to 2018 as part of Marvel's All-New, All-Different initiative and is collected in full in the All-New Wolverine Omnibus (2021).
