“Citadel”

In "Citadel," Wolverine takes a daring flight to Canada with Kitty Pryde, sparking concern at Xavier's School when it appears he's aligning with the Canadian government. Teaming up with Alpha Flight, Logan confronts a group of dying Weapon X experiments holding the governor general hostage, uncovering a past he'd rather forget. The mission takes a personal turn when Shaman tries to save Citadel, a former test subject now encased in adamantium—only to face a loss that echoes through Wolverine’s own history. Written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Clayton Henry, with a striking cover by John Cassaday, this 2009 issue blends high-stakes action with emotional weight.

Wolverine steals a Blackbird and takes Kitty to Canada and Xavier fears Logan is returning to work for the Canadian government. Wolverine teams up with Alpha Flight to quell a hostage situation where a terrorist faction is holding the governor general captive. In conducting their operation, Wolverine learns that the bad guys are old Weapon X experiments who are dying from adamantium exposure. As the X-Men arrive on the scene, Shaman is trying to save the life of the terrorist leader, Citadel, who is encased in adamantium armor but he ends up dying, taking a piece of Wolverine's past with him.
