Wyatt Earp encounters Jax Motrey, a former criminal he remembers from the past, and hires him as the new marshal with plans to use him in a scheme to catch criminals without violence. When Motrey's first case involves stopping a real outlaw named Sells, Motrey is caught in a gunfight at a building, leading to a confrontation where Earp must intervene. In "A Dangerous Dandy," Wyatt Earp attends a wedding at a small ranch and encounters some rough men who insult his fancy clothes; later, while riding across poor-looking land, he discovers the area needs water and forms a plan, eventually uncovering bushwhackers who have been firing on the ranch and capturing them.
