The issue went on sale January 19, 2000, with a March 2000 cover date, placing it squarely in Marvel's ambitious 'Ages of Apocalypse' event timed to the fifth anniversary of the original 1995 Age of Apocalypse crossover. Alan Davis served as both plotter and penciler, with Terry Kavanagh scripting, Mark Farmer on inks, Marie Javins on colors, and Richard Starkings / Comicraft handling letters; editor Mark Powers and editor-in-chief Bob Harras oversaw the line. The 'Ages of Apocalypse' event itself spun out of 'Apocalypse: The Twelve,' in which En Sabah Nur — trapped in the body of Cyclops after a failed attempt to possess Nate Grey — warped Earth-616 into a series of divergent alternate realities, each explored by a different X-title that month.
