The story unfolds with emotional weight, anchored by Mort Meskin’s expressive art and George Roussos’s inks, while John Prentice’s cover captures the drama in sharp, evocative detail.

After Bert dumps her, Cora moves to the city and gets a job. She meets visiting businessman David, a middle-aged widower, and agrees to marry him for “security.” Cora is attracted to Steve, the fiancé of David’s daughter Janet. They kiss. David sees them and Cora says “I only wanted...a little excitement! Forgive me for being young!” Cora realizes she loves David but he’s badly injured in a possibly-deliberate car crash and “will never walk again!” Cora’s “penance” will be to care for David for the rest of her life.
