“Secret Tales”

"Secret Tales" introduces a delightfully unexpected twist in the Red Mosquito mythos, as the enigmatic hero recounts a bizarre encounter after a radio show taping. After being probed by what he thought were extraterrestrials, he discovers they’re actually tourists from Polaria, a hidden kingdom beneath the Earth—drawn to him not as a threat, but as a fan. Written and illustrated entirely by Bryan Payne, this 2018 special from Darshan Studios delivers a quirky, grounded mystery with a surreal punch, all framed by Payne’s distinctive cover art.

After work, Joyce James meets Red Mosquito for coffee, and he recaps what he can remember of what he did after he suddenly left the studio of her radio call-in talk show. He searched for and found the aliens whose spaceship Ulysses St, Augustine had seen flying in the air. He was probed by the aliens, who appeared to communicate telepathically. It turns out they aren't actually aliens from another planet, but rather tourists from a hollow-Earth kingdom called Polaria, and they had come because they are big fans of the Red Mosquito.
