The Outsider
8 pp · war

PFC M.T. Gabler arrives at his rifle company as a green replacement, assigned to the legendary 2nd Squad of Charlie Company—and T/SGT. Nick Valone wastes no time putting him to work under fire. When the squad scouts a French farm ahead of the battalion's advance, Gabler's farm background helps him spot signs of recent Nazi occupation, but his inexperience and frozen courage in combat leave him questioning whether he'll ever earn his place among these hardened professionals. As enemy artillery zeroes in on their position, Gabler seizes a desperate chance to prove himself.

Meet the Tiger
4 pp · war

When a desk-bound shoe salesman gets recalled to active duty in Korea, he discovers the battle-hardened soldier he used to be is still very much alive—and the Chinese Army is about to find out why. Stripped down to his fighting weight and rediscovering the instincts that made him legendary in World War II, S/Sgt. Lash McArdle proves that some tigers never really retire. A sharp look at what combat does to a man, and what a man can still do when the moment demands it.

Stubborn in Defeat
3 pp · war

When Japanese forces launched their surprise attack on Luzon in December 1941, General MacArthur's garrison faced overwhelming odds with limited weapons and supplies. Despite the enemy's superior numbers and firepower, American troops fought a stubborn delaying campaign, with thousands volunteering to stay behind even as evacuations began, determined to inflict heavy casualties on the occupiers and tie down Japanese forces that might otherwise be deployed elsewhere in the Pacific.

A Special Day
8 pp · war

A young soldier assigned to the heavy machine gun squad in Korea, February 1951, finds himself thrust into combat when a Communist attack forces his unit to abandon their positions. As he fights to hold the line—first against individual infiltrators, then against a full assault—he discovers that today carries unexpected significance beyond the frozen misery of the war. With his rifle frozen by subzero temperatures and ammunition running low, he'll have to dig deeper than he thought possible to survive what this "special day" has in store.
