Clint Curtis rebuilds a damaged engine with the help of an older mechanic, carefully cleaning and reassembling the cylinder, pistons, and valves to restore the engine to working order. The issue also features an "Auto Hints" educational section providing practical maintenance tips for motorists, such as lubricating door handles, ventilation hinges, and trunk compartments to prevent squeaks and rust. A week later, Curtis installs new adjustable tappets to fine-tune the engine's valve clearances for increased performance, and receives a re-ground racing camshaft as a gift.
