About the series
In the mid-1980s, DC’s Adventures of the Outsiders (1986–1987) spun off from the main Outsiders title, continuing the team’s globe-trotting, covert missions with a darker, more mature tone. Written primarily by Mike W. Barr and featuring a rotating roster of artists including Jim Aparo, Alan Davis, and Jan Duursema, this 14-issue series deepened the Outsiders’ status as a non-traditional superhero team operating outside the Justice League’s shadow. It bridged the gap between the team’s original run and the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC universe, offering a grittier take on teenage heroes.
