Air Ace

A wartime aviation comic from Street & Smith, Air Ace ran for 20 issues between 1944 and 1947, chronicling the high-flying exploits of Allied pilots through the final years of World War II and into the early postwar period. The series was driven by the dependable storytelling of Alfred M. Klein and the energetic art of Charles Wessell, who both wrote and drew many of its action-packed dogfights and daring missions. Though it didn't outlast the late 1940s shift in comics tastes, Air Ace stands as a solid, no-frills example of the patriotic adventure comics that filled newsstands during the war.
