About the series
Carlos Sampayo and José Muñoz’s Alack Sinner is a hard-boiled, existential detective series that redefined the crime comic for a European audience, originally serialized across a trio of issues from Edition Moderne in the late 80s and early 2000s. Its shadow-drenched, expressionistic art and terse, melancholic writing follow a private eye navigating a corrupt, morally ambiguous Buenos Aires-like city. More a meditation on failure and memory than a conventional whodunit, the series is a landmark of mature, literary graphic storytelling.
