All-Negro Comics

A landmark of independent publishing, All-Negro Comics debuted in 1947 as the first comic book written and drawn entirely by Black creators. Produced by John Terrell, this single issue was a bold, self-contained anthology featuring a range of original characters and stories, created to counter the era's racist stereotypes and showcase Black talent in the medium. Though only one issue was published, its significance as a pioneering, self-determined work of African American comics history remains profound.
