About the series
Alter Ego (1961–1979, Alter Ego Enterprises) was a pioneering fanzine that celebrated the history of superhero comics, long before the mainstream took notice. Over its ten-issue run, it was most frequently written and drawn by fan-turned-professional E. Nelson Bridwell, alongside future Marvel mainstay Roy Thomas and artist Ronn Foss. As one of the first publications to treat comic book lore with scholarly affection, it helped lay the groundwork for modern fandom and the eventual rise of the direct market.
