About the series
In the mid-1980s, Fantagraphics unleashed Anything Goes!, a six-issue anthology that captured the raw, irreverent energy of the alternative-comics scene. Edited and contributed to by Gary Groth, Art Spiegelman, and Peter Bagge, the series served as a playground for satirical and experimental storytelling, with Bagge and Phil Elliott among the key artists. Its most unexpected recurring feature was a darkly comic, unauthorized take on Little Orphan Annie, twisting the beloved strip into a vehicle for social commentary. A snapshot of the era's underground spirit, Anything Goes! remains a notable artifact of the publisher's early, boundary-pushing catalog.
