About the series
This five-issue 1989 DC miniseries redefined Aquaman for a new era, pairing the King of Atlantis with a newly introduced alien sidekick, Vulko. Written by Keith Giffen and Robert Loren Fleming, with art by Curt Swan and Giffen, the story strips Arthur Curry of his throne and his hand, forcing him to survive as a lone outcast. A gritty, character-driven adventure, it stripped away the character's Silver Age trappings and set the stage for the more serious, sea-worn Aquaman of the 1990s.
