Archer & Armstrong

From 1992 to 1994, Valiant (and later Acclaim) published this 27-issue series that paired the eternally drunken, super-strong immortal Aram Anni-Padda—known as Armstrong—with the naive but deadly young martial artist Archer. Written primarily by Mike Baron, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Jim Shooter, with art from Windsor-Smith, Mike Vosburg, and Paul Hewitt, the book blended globe-trotting conspiracy, slapstick buddy comedy, and a surprisingly heartfelt take on faith and history. At its core, it’s a story about an unlikely friendship forged in the shadow of ancient secrets.
