A gritty, painted war comic from the Dutch publisher Nooitgedacht, Army ran for 15 issues from 1976 to 1978, capturing the grim reality of military conflict through its stark, painterly visuals. The series is most closely associated with the atmospheric painted work of Primo Marcarini (credited as Marca), whose style gave the battlefield a haunting, almost cinematic quality. Though its creator behind the brush remains uncertain, Army stands as a distinctive, visually ambitious entry in the European war-comics tradition of the 1970s.
