As Cidades Obscuras

In the late 1980s, Edições 70 published a brief but evocative Portuguese-language edition of As Cidades Obscuras, collecting two issues of the visionary series created by writer Benoît Peeters and artist François Schuiten. This translation, with additional scripting by Carlos Pessoa and Manuela Barreto, introduced Portuguese readers to the duo’s meticulously imagined, surreal urban landscapes—a blend of architectural fantasy and philosophical storytelling. Though short-lived, this edition stands as a cultural bridge, bringing one of European comics’ most influential and atmospheric series to a new audience.
