Atlas Artist Edition

From 2024 onward, Fantagraphics’ Atlas Artist Edition series spotlights the raw, unlettered artwork of 1950s Atlas Comics, with a focus on the lush, detailed pencils of Al Williamson, Joe Maneely, and Roy Krenkel. Each oversized volume presents complete stories as originally drawn, stripping away dialogue and captions to let the sequential art breathe. Writer Hank Chapman’s genre tales—often sci-fi, horror, or adventure—provide the narrative backbone, but the real draw is the chance to study the craftsmanship of these pre-Marvel masters in a pristine, archival format.
