Azumanga Daioh
From 2003 to 2004, A.D. Vision adapted Kiyohiko Azuma’s beloved slice-of-life manga into a compact four-issue comic series, bringing the gentle, absurdist humor of a Japanese high school to English-speaking readers. Anchored by Azuma’s clean, expressive artwork, the series follows a cast of quirky students—including the ever-energetic Chiyo-chan, the anxious Kaorin, and the mischievous Biting Cat—alongside their bemused teacher Miss Kurosawa. Writers Amy Forsyth, Javier Lopez, and Kay Bertrand helped translate the series’ warm, episodic charm, making it an early touchstone for Western audiences discovering the delight of everyday school-life comedy. Its concise run captures the essence of Azuma’s work: a lighthearted, character-driven world where even the smallest moments feel wonderfully alive.
