About the series
From 1975 to 1984, Scholastic published Bananas, a 72-issue humor comic that brought madcap, kid-friendly absurdity to newsstands. The series is most closely associated with writer Jovial Bob Stine—better known later as R.L. Stine—who filled its pages with puns, parodies, and playful mayhem, while artists like Dan Nelken and T. Yeates kept the gags visually lively. A beloved staple of its era, Bananas captured the goofy spirit of 1970s and ’80s childhood, serving as a zany gateway to comics for a generation of young readers.
