Batman - Les Fous d'Arkham

Grant Morrison and Janine Bharucha wrote this single-issue prestige-format story from Comics USA in 1990, with haunting painted art by Dave McKean. A dark, psychological exploration of Batman's rogues gallery, it reimagines the inmates of Arkham Asylum through a surreal, almost dreamlike lens that influenced the visual and tonal direction of later Batman comics.
