About the series
In 2019, Image Comics launched Bitter Root, a four-issue series by writers Chuck Brown and David F. Walker with artist Sanford Greene. Set during the Harlem Renaissance, it follows the Sangerye family, a clan of monster hunters who cure the souls of those transformed by a supernatural plague of racial hatred. The series blends action, family drama, and historical fantasy, standing out for its vibrant art and its unflinching yet hopeful meditation on healing real-world bigotry.
