About the series
From 1972 to 1986, Kitchen Sink Press published Bizarre Sex, a 15-issue anthology that lived up to its title by exploring the outer limits of erotic comics with a surreal, often satirical edge. The series became a showcase for countercultural cartoonists, most notably Howard Cruse, whose boundary-pushing work appeared alongside contributions from Gary Hallgren, Joe Schwind, and Dutch artist Bernard Willem Holtrop. Blending taboo subject matter with underground comix irreverence, it pushed the boundaries of what comics could depict during the era’s freewheeling independent press boom.
