Black Magic Comics

A short-lived but visually potent horror anthology from the early 1950s, Black Magic Comics was a showcase for the dark, kinetic storytelling of Jack Kirby, Joe Simon, and Mort Meskin. Published by the Arnold Book Company across 16 issues, the series specialized in eerie, twist-ending tales of the supernatural and the macabre, a common genre staple of the pre-Code era. While it never reached the heights of EC’s famous horror line, the series is notable for its high-caliber artwork and for being one of the few Simon & Kirby projects of the period, offering a raw, energetic glimpse into their post-war work before the Comics Code Authority reshaped the industry.
