About the series
In the early 1940s, Holyoke Publishing launched Blue Beetle, a 19-issue series that introduced readers to rookie cop Dan Garret, who dons a bulletproof costume and a special vitamin to fight crime as the Blue Beetle. The title also featured the patriotic V-Man (Jerry Steele) and the comedic Sparkington J. Northrup, with artists Allen Ulmer, Alden Remlu, and Alan Mandel shaping its Golden Age pulp energy. While less famous than its contemporaries, the series stands as an early, formative step for a character who would later become a DC Comics mainstay.
