Blue Beetle
DC · 1986–1988 · 24 issues
About the series
In the late 1980s, DC Comics gave Ted Kord—the second Blue Beetle—his own solo series, a 24-issue run that balanced high-tech heroics with a lighter, more grounded tone. Written primarily by Len Wein, R. J. M. Lofficier, and Joey Cavalieri, with art from Paris Cullins, Ross Andru, and Don Heck, the book followed the brilliant inventor and businessman as he fought threats like the time-manipulating Chronos while navigating his personal life with allies Jeremiah Duncan and Angela Revere. This series is notable for solidifying Ted Kord’s identity as a resourceful, gadget-wielding hero distinct from his predecessor, carving out a niche for him in the DC Universe before the era’s major crossovers.
