About the series
In the late 1960s and through the 1970s, French publisher Arédit-Artima brought the gritty combat of DC's war comics to European readers with Brûlant, a 46-issue series that reprinted tales of soldiers and pilots in action. The series is most defined by the visceral, dust-choked artwork of Joe Kubert, who also wrote many stories alongside regular contributors Robert Kanigher, John Albano, Russ Heath, and Tony DeZuniga. As a key conduit for American war comics in France, Brûlant stands as a distinctive artifact of cross-Atlantic publishing, preserving the raw energy of its creators' work for a new audience.
