Captain Britain

Marvel UK’s first major solo series, Captain Britain (1976–1977) introduced the star-spangled hero Brian Braddock to a transatlantic audience over 39 issues. Anchored by the scripting of Gary Friedrich, Chris Claremont, and Larry Lieber, with dynamic art from Herb Trimpe, Ron Wilson, and Bob Budiansky, the strip pitted Britain’s champion against threats both mystical and mundane. Early crossovers with Steve Rogers’ Captain America hinted at the wider Marvel Universe, while supporting players like Chief Inspector Dai Thomas and Commander Lance Hunter grounded the adventures in a distinctly British setting. Though short-lived, this foundational run established Captain Britain as a key figure in Marvel’s international pantheon.
