About the series
In the early 1990s, James Sturm brought his singular, deadpan vision to Fantagraphics with Cereal Killings, an eight-issue series that skewers consumer culture and suburban malaise. The strip follows a rotating cast of oddballs—including the hapless Snip and Doug, along with the menacing Scarecrow, Schmedly, Shirland, and Burt—through a landscape of absurdist satire. Sturm, writing and drawing every installment, uses the comic form to explore the quiet horror lurking beneath breakfast-table banality. A cult touchstone of the alt-comics era, the series remains a sharp, unsettling artifact of its time.
