Conan de barbaar

From 1981 onward, Oberon brought the savage Cimmerian to Dutch readers in Conan de barbaar, a series that adapted Robert E. Howard’s iconic hero for a new audience. Running for 11 issues, the title drew on the talents of legendary American creators like writer Roy Thomas and artists John Buscema and Barry Windsor-Smith, whose work on the original Marvel series defined the look of the Hyborian Age. Later contributions from Gardner F. Fox and Dutch writer Patrick Wessels added fresh layers to Conan’s brutal adventures. This series matters as a key European gateway to the character, preserving the epic scope and visceral action of the classic comics while making them accessible in the Netherlands.
