Conquistador

In this short-lived, two-issue series from French publisher Les Sculpteurs de Bulles, Conquistador (2012–2015) reimagines the collision of Old World ambition and New World mystery during the age of Spanish exploration. The story follows a hardened conquistador whose brutal quest for gold and glory leads him to a remote, enigmatic land where the boundaries of reality begin to fray. While the series was brief, it stands out for its atmospheric, painterly art and its willingness to blend historical fiction with surreal, almost folkloric undertones. Though it never expanded beyond its initial two issues, Conquistador remains a curious, visually striking artifact of European comics' fascination with dark, revisionist history.
