Criminals on the Run

A short-lived, two-issue crime comic from Star Publications, Criminals on the Run (1949–1950) delivered punchy tales of lawbreakers and their inevitable downfalls, a staple of the post-war crime genre. The series is most remembered for its striking covers by artist L. B. Cole, whose lurid, pop-art style made even a brief run memorable, with interior stories by Ray Gill and John Jordon. Though it vanished quickly, it stands as a vivid artifact of the pre-Comics Code era, when crime comics were at their raw, unfiltered peak.
